I love this story story, from the Cincinnati Enquirer. At the St. Joseph Home in Cincinnati, a residential facility for non-ambulatory and non-verbal adults and children, a wish list request from its female residents is nail polish. So volunteers from a local high school girls' soccer team visited the home and painted the nails and toes of some very deserving residents. As St. Joseph's development director Renee Russell explained in the paper, "The girls and women at the home don't have much mobility, so looking at their bright-colored fingernails brings them happiness."

Painting and discussing our nails is all in a day's work around these parts. And while I may not notice when someone is testing out a new mascara, foundation, or bronzer, I always notice when she has fly nails. Stopping to discuss the whys and wherefores of the color or design with a coworker or friend just instantly makes me happier. And if I'm having a bad day, a glittery manicure can significantly boost my spirits.

Maybe that's why nail polish is having a huge moment in cosmetics? According toWWD, from January to October last year, nail sales were up a staggering 59 percent. If people are buying it at the rate they're apparently buying it, then I have to believe I'm not alone in believing in polish's mood-lifting powers. In this month's Psychological Science, UCLA researchers report on their research: women could withstand more physical pain when looking at pictures of their significant others. Researchers concluded that seeing the snaps brought on feelings of love and support, even when the loved one wasn't present. Eyebrows are inarguably one of the most important features on your face.  It defines your eyes, the shape of your face and expresses your personality.  Well-shaped brows always enhance your look, your personality and your confidence.

When it comes to Brazilian bikini waxes, the debate can get hairy. (Sorry!)

Adding to the conversation, a sex advice columnist for The Times of London has sparked outrage for telling a letter writer that she's not with it if she's not without it—downunder hair, that is. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Wurtzel, the author of Bitch and Prozac Nation, argues in nerve.com's Bare vs. Hair Debate that "we women don't feel entirely female unless we're slaves to beauty."

Huge sisterhood fails, ladies. No woman wants to feel like a slave to grooming; and implying that beauty isn't about choice, is missing all the fun is has to offer. (Lipstick Queen in Saint Rouge is not my master, but my elected official. And when I'm not wearing it, I still have two X chromosomes.)

Allure has had its share of bikini waxes—both standard and Brazilian. They're great for keeping your full downstairs under wraps at the beach, and yeah, they do look and feel a little tidier. And considering the fact that people have been using delipitories on body hair since at least 4,000 BC, the Brazilian isn't so outlandish. That said, it also isn't a must—especially, when you have the option to dye your downunder hair blue.
